Weightlifting FundamentalsThere’s no doubt about it.  Traditional Barbell lifts are some of the best exercises to build strength, tone-up and change the shape of your body among many other benefits.  As effective as they are, many people shy away from them because the “don’t want to get bulky.”  Or they do not know how to perform them correctly and fit them into their workouts.

At Functional Aesthetics, we have developed a system combining these traditional lifts with calisthenics (Body Weight Movements) as well as other athletic movements and what I call “functional movements” (these movements are beneficial in that they train the smaller muscle groups to work in unison with the larger muscle groups, providing greater joint stability to prevent injury while also enhancing recovery from traditional strength training moves and increasing leanness by utilizing the smaller muscle groups to continue to burn calories once the larger muscle groups have become fatigued.  This ultimately results in increased leanness, stamina and strength.

As I mentioned above many people avoid lifting with barbells either because they are unsure of how to properly execute the movements and are afraid of injury, or are afraid that doing so will turn them into a BULKY power lifter or bodybuilder.  In actuality, gaining muscle mass is dependent on MANY factors, one of them being overloading the muscle with heavier weights.  However, calorie intake, genetics, rep ranges, training frequency and time under tension, to name a few, also play a role in how big your muscles become.  Anyone from elderly to endurance athlete, can use barbells to improve their HEALTH and PERFORMANCE.

In this workshop you will learn to ACTIVATE the specific muscles used in each lift so that you are using the correct muscles.  This will not only help you AVOID INJURY, BUT ALSO ensure you get the VERY BEST results from your workouts.  You can then take this information with you and incorporate it into your normal fitness routine, or try one of our HYBRID WORKOUT CLASSES.
